Could you be a Shearwater Scholar?

In Uncategorized on June 22, 2011 at 1:04 pm

As dedicated team members of equestrianism in the UK, Shearwater Insurance are conducting a nationwide search for a talented amateur rider and will be awarding them with the Shearwater Scholarship to help them further their riding career.

Having been involved in horses across the disciplines, Shearwater know all too well the financial commitment of owning and competing a horse, which is why they have decided to search for an individual whose passion and enthusiasm for the sport shines through and reward them for this by helping them further their dreams financially.

The Shearwater Scholarship scheme is looking for someone to be an amateur ambassador for the well known insurance broker, which will include wearing branded clothing when out on the circuit and updating the team with progress in the form of blogs and results to be utilised through social media. In return the winner will receive a £500 training bursary along with Shearwater clothing and equipment.

Jeremy Lawton is looking forward to seeing how the company can help a rider achieve their equestrian ambitions. “We are very proud to be associated with riders in all sports and when times are tight the first thing that gets dropped is lessons and training,” he says. “We hope that with the support of Shearwater’s Scholarship we can give someone the opportunity to invest in their passion and we look forward to receiving the applications.”

How to apply
Entries should be made via email and should include a full equestrian CV telling us what the rider’s previous experience is, what equine aims they have and how they aim to achieve them. Shearwater also wishes to know how their training funding would be allocated and what the rider would be able to do to help promote the company. This should be sent, together with up to date images and video footage if available, to: shearwaterinsuranceltd@gmail.com. Applications will close on Friday 30th September.

Leslie Law’s former working pupil rides for Shearwater!

In Uncategorized on June 15, 2011 at 11:57 am

Dedicated to supporting talent in the industry, Shearwater Insurance is very proud to announce their sponsorship of up and coming event rider, Kylie Roddy.

After attending a lesson with Leslie Law in the year 2000, Kylie became his working pupil and remained with the Olympic medallist until 2004. During that time she had many successes with her horse Kyrenejenalla’s Boy, including two appearances on the British Young Rider team. After competing at Advanced level for a couple of seasons Kylie unfortunately had to make the heartbreaking decision to sell him and he was sold to a Czech rider who went on to compete at the Olympics with him.

Kylie now has a string of talented young horses, including winner of the 2009 Six Year Old Championships, Wapiti, and has recently acquired a new ride courtesy of Shearwater Insurance. “Shearwater Billy Red – or Billy as he is known at home – is a five year old gelding who is an out and out Irish horse,” Kylie tells us. “He was originally bought for Susan Lawton the wife of Shearwater’s Managing Director, Jeremy Lawton, eighteen months ago, but recently I have taken over the ride and am very excited at his potential. He is a good moving horse and is very bold and brave, the first time I took him cross country schooling he was unbelievable!” Kylie aims to take part in the Five Year Old Classes in 2011 and see how Billy progresses from there.

Shearwater’s Jeremy Lawton is pleased to have the opportunity to support a rising star. “Having known Kylie for many years we are very pleased to see her riding Billy and have high hopes for the combination going forwards,” he says. “Kylie is dedicated and has already demonstrated a talent for producing top level horses and we look forward to being part of her ongoing success.”

What is Shear H20 up to now?

In Uncategorized on June 1, 2011 at 8:45 am

Shear H20 is enjoying his life with Claire Llewelyn and still loves getting out to parties! She tells us how the gorgeous grey is getting on…

“Now 21 years old (young!) Solo is fit, well and on great form,” Claire tells us. “He still enjoys hacking (yeah, we had rain yesterday so got out for a good canter today!) and still enjoys doing a bit of jumping at home, nothing too big but it is a real treat for him now and he is very enthusiastic when the jumps come out!”

“We compete at British Dressage and over the last couple of years he has qualified for both the medium and advanced medium winter regionals. We did a dressage to music demo at Blenheim 3 day event last year and then were asked to do this again at Chatsworth which we did on Friday 13th May 2011. We have been asked back to Blenheim again this year to do our music demo again, although we will have to change the party piece as he knows this too well now! Last year at Blenheim he also met up with his remaining team-mates from Sydney, Rocky (Supreme Rock) and Jack (Over To You) and did a parade which he thought was super fun!”

“This year we have been very brave and at the beginning of May did Advanced 100! He learnt how to do tempi changes for his dressage to music demo and so we had a go, didn’t disgrace ourselves and are going for another outing on June 15th at Arena UK! Solo is definitely enjoying life beyond eventing!”
